Founded in 2010 by Malin Cronqvist, the nonprofit foundation empowers students in Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya through a transparent, community-driven crowdfunding model that pays for university tuition and opens the door to life-changing career opportunities. In a region where primary school enrollment has surged but access to university remains scarce, Help to Help provides a crucial bridge. In Tanzania, for example, fewer than 5% of students make it into higher education, even as the demand for skilled professionals continues to rise. Help to Help focuses on supporting degrees in high-impact fields including medicine, engineering, teaching, and business, areas where one graduate can improve thousands of lives over the course of a career.
The organization’s measurable impact reveals just how powerful this approach is. Eighty-seven percent of graduates increase their family’s income, and seventy-two percent help fund their siblings’ education, creating upward mobility that spreads across households and generations. Hundreds of students each year gain access to opportunities that would otherwise remain out of reach, igniting what the foundation calls the “Help to Help effect”, the ripple of positive change that begins with educating one individual and expands to strengthen whole communities. Rather than sending short-term aid, Help to Help invests in long-term capacity by equipping local talent to solve local challenges. A doctor trained through the program may serve thousands of patients, a teacher may educate hundreds of children, and an engineer may build infrastructure that supports entire cities. Since launching its digital crowdfunding platform in 2014, the foundation has funded university education for 933 students, with 648 graduates now contributing to the region’s social and economic development.
