EQUITEA
In-Depth Profile

EQUITEA

equiTEA is an inclusive equestrian activity school—established as a non-profit organization (G-90190471)—with the mission of bringing the world of horses and its many opportunities for fun and learning to individuals with functional diversity or specific needs. This is particularly aimed at those with autism, whose access to community resources is often restricted due to a lack of financial means or qualified personnel, or because their rights are curtailed simply because they have a disability. Founded in 2013 by Marta Alonso Pila—a clinical psychologist specializing in equine therapies and interventions for individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders, particularly Autism Spectrum Disorder—the organization is supported by a multidisciplinary team of qualified professionals (psychologists, educators, physiotherapists, and sports technicians). Their primary objective is the holistic positive development and improved quality of life for people with disabilities and their families, combining adapted sports, inclusive leisure activities, and the rehabilitation and re-education of body and mind through horses and nature. Equine-Assisted Interventions (EAI) serve as a therapeutic alternative that complements traditional methods; they utilize the horse as an integrating, motivating, and rehabilitative element within a playful yet structured setting, surrounded by the natural world. The horse is chosen as the central element of these activities due to its noble and sociable nature, its remarkable capacity for learning and sensitivity, and its physical structure and movement biomechanics.
