Spinners Web Kenya: 40 Years of Handcrafted <3 Back in 1985, when shoulder pads were big and the internet was still a wild idea, three remarkable women — Jacqueline Resley, Jean O’Meara and Betti Mburu — decided to spin something a little different. They created Spinners Web Kenya, a small shop with a big dream: to give Kenya’s talented artisans a place to sell their creations made from the country’s beautiful natural materials — wool, cotton, sisal and more. The idea was simple: consignment outlet that supported workshops, self-help groups and individual craftspeople — people who were weaving, spinning, knitting, carving and sewing their hearts out, but had few ways to reach customers. All three founders were makers themselves, creating hand-woven and knitted items from hand-spun yarns. So, they understood exactly what the craft community needed — encouragement, visibility and a fair return. Over time, Spinners Web became much more than a shop. It turned into a community hub, a treasure trove of Kenyan and Sub-Saharan creativity, and (for many of us) a dangerously tempting place to “just pop in” and somehow leave with a new basket, a scarf and a jar of macadamia butter. Word spread quickly, and soon the shop earned its reputation as the biggest and best collection of handcrafted products in Kenya — all under one beautifully designed roof. Through it all, one thing has never changed: our belief in quality, fairness and originality. We encourage our suppliers to keep innovating — to blend tradition with modern design, and to make things that people will love, use, and cherish for years. So here we are, forty years later, still spinning — threads, dreams and connections. From a tiny idea in 1985 to a vibrant creative landmark, Spinners Web Kenya continues to celebrate the best of what can happen when talent, passion and a good cup of coffee come together.
